Proud all year

Pride Month may be over, but with Nottingham Pride taking place on 25 July, we’re continuing the celebrations.

At Nottingham City Libraries, we’re proud to support LGBTQIA+ communities throughout the year with regular groups, special events, author talks, creative workshops and a wide range of books for all ages.

Whether you’re looking to meet new people, discover your next favourite author or celebrate Nottingham’s rich LGBTQIA+ culture and history, there’s something for everyone.

Write Queer: Speak Here

Thursday 23 July 2026, 7pm–9pm (doors open 6.30pm)

To celebrate Nottingham Pride, Write Queer is hosting a special open mic night at Nottingham Central Library.

Writers, performers and musicians are invited to share their work with a live audience in a supportive environment. There will also be opportunities to meet local LGBTQIA+ organisations, community groups and businesses.

Whether you’re ready to take to the stage or would prefer to sit back and enjoy the performances, Speak Here promises to be a fantastic evening celebrating creativity, community and Pride.

Literary Pride Reading Group

Last Saturday of every month, 2pm–3pm

Literary Pride is a friendly reading group for LGBTQ+ readers and allies.

Rather than reading a single book each month, members explore a different theme, such as found family, queer history or bi representation. Sessions are filled with recommendations, discussion and conversation in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Whether you’re an avid reader or simply looking for a community to connect with, Literary Pride is a great place to discover new books and voices.

Write Queer

Third Monday of every month, 4.30pm–6pm

Our resident LGBTQIA+ writing group, Write Queer, has become an important part of library life.

Whether you’re an experienced writer or just starting out, Write Queer offers a welcoming and supportive space to work on stories, poems, scripts or personal writing. Led by local writer Richard, each session includes prompts and exercises designed to spark creativity and help develop your writing.

The group has grown from strength to strength, connecting local writers and helping many participants build confidence, friendships and new creative projects.
