Volunteer Profile
Finlay Munden
I couldn’t have made a better decision in applying for the meet and greet volunteer role at Nottingham Central Library. Using my initiative and curiosity and determination, I developed key library customer service skills and understood how Nottingham City Libraries work. I helped customers find where library stock was located, and signposted people to staff with general queries. This wouldn’t have been the same without the incredibly kind staff members who made me feel like I was part of the team and supported me in my career aims. They answered any questions that I had so I could improve my knowledge of the library service and build skills in an extremely welcoming environment.
Fast forward to July 2024, and I secured a Library Customer Service Advisor post with Inspire libraries. My time as a volunteer has provided me with great experience that I could use in my job applications and interviews to showcase that I was right for my new role. As a young adult, the moment I was told I was the preferred candidate was profound as I knew I had then gained the foothold I needed for my career. Owing much to my time volunteering at the Central Library, I am now working in a job I love.
