2024/25 Budget Savings Proposals

The Council has highlighted a £50 million gap in its budget next year, 2024/25, which will have a major impact on its services.

A report to the council’s Executive Board on 19 December set out a range of initial proposals to make the savings needed to close the budget gap and balance the budget for 2024/25, which is a legal requirement for all councils.

Officers put forward various savings proposals for consideration by councillors and, as part of the process, these proposals were subject to public consultation.

The consultation ran for four weeks, from December 19, 2023, to January 16, 2024, and aimed to review library service provision as part of the proposed solutions.

How would this impact our city libraries?

The proposal is to carry out a review of our Library Service to achieve library budget savings of £1.524 million over 2 years, this would inevitably result in some library closures and job losses.

Question 22 of the survey relates to the proposal to carry out a review of our Library Service and asks for your opinion on this.
