Dementia Action Week

Dementia Action Week is an annual event raising awareness of dementia and the impact it has on the whole family.  Here are some things we’ve got happening during Dementia Action Week 2022 and resources in libraries for those living with dementia, their families, friends and carers.

Dementia Cafe – Clifton Library

If you live in the Clifton area and are affected by dementia either as a patient or carer, join us on Thursday 19 May at Clifton Library between 1:00 – 3:00 p.m for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat with others in a similar situation.

Reading Well for Dementia

Reading Well for Dementia is a collection of books aimed at those with a diagnosis of dementia, their families and carers.  Encompassing lived experience, practical information, novels, reminiscence picture books and even a picture book to help children understand a grandparent’s diagnosis, titles are available in many of our libraries.

Memory Packs

Memory Packs are loanable collections of books, images and other items designed to stimulate recollection and conversation.

They can be borrowed by patients, carers and health professionals.  Search for Memory Pack in our catalogue to see the list of topics available and request for collection at your nearest library.

Online Reminiscence Resources

We have a range of online resources themed around local history which we hope will aid reminiscence.

Our eMemory Packs are online mini-versions of Memory Packs themed around specific topics from our Local Studies collection including old Market Square and Transport.

We’ve made online jigsaws from a selection of images of Nottingham through the years.

You can view our photographic archive on the Picture Nottingham website – search by place, keyword, theme and more.

Home Library Service | Click and Collect

For those who find it difficult to get to the library, including people with dementia and their carers, we have a couple of options to help you keep a steady supply of reading material.

We offer a Click and Collect service whereby staff select titles of your preferred genre and have them ready for you to collect.

If getting to the library is tricky because of mobility issues or caring responsibilities, the Home Library Service can come to you, bringing a selection of titles to suit your needs.
